29th Sept 2016 - Photographing the Southern Aurora

Last night i decided to go out and try to capture the Southern Aurora from Pt Addis, Victoria

Little did i know there is quite a community of avid Aurora Chasers, equipment varying in shapes and sizes but all there for the buzz you receive when you look at the sky and see not much, but then see the result of your long exposure burst out in beautiful colour against the stars and the night sky

It was very cloudy and overcast so i used the cloud white balance settings on my camera.  The time for each photo was 20" to 30" with an ISO between 1600 and 3200 with a low FStop of 3.5 using my cameras kit pancake lens to get a nice wide angle

As they photos were taken in the dark they had a lot of grain in the image, so i used lightroom to Sharpening an Luminance settings.  If you want to try and take Photo's yourself, there is some great information here

I have also uploaded the aurora filter i created in lightroom to reduce the noise in the image and bring out the colour here, please feel free to download and use for personal use.  I have included a sample below
